The singer/humorist Jonathan Coulton has written a sweet little ditty about his Powerbook, definitely worth checking out! The first link goes to the .mp3 which he has posted on his website, and the second goes to the lyrics. Enjoy!

I don't think there's much out there for WiFi, because WiFi is pretty high-powered and expensive for remote sensor use.
Insteon and Z-Wave are common home automation solutions.
Insteon is mixed power-line and RF. Some products use power-line communication, some use RF, some use both. You need a gateway device to bridge your home network to Insteon.
Z-Wave is RF. Again, you need a gateway to bridge to your network.

I know you were asking about books, but there's a more in depth documentary called "Welcome to Macintosh". It really covers the development of the original and some later history. They even go into how they came to use the Motorola 68000 and even the history of the startup sounds. Read the movie synopsis for more info. I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in Apple history.
It's available for rent at the iTunes store.
Thanks I have seen that one. Actually have it in my iTunes library already :)
Keep the suggestions coming guys/gals thanks.

Just went by and checked the line, about 20-30 people now. Looks like Fashion Valley's 5 am stampede may be the best bet.

Hi,
I am looking for a person that can give me some help with connecting a back up network for me. I have looked a lot of places, but until now not found the solution. I know that there is hundreds of ways to connect my gear, but a simple, easy and a way that is bullet proof
My equipment is: MacBook Air, Apple TV (320Gb), Airport extreme, Time capsule (2Tb), Eye Tv, 4 * Buffalo Nas (2 * 2 Tb, 0.5, 0.5 Tb ) 1 Nas adapter, 2 ext. Hard drive (2Tb each), iPad 1, 2 * Ipod touch, Mac Mini Server (0.5 + 1 Tb), Windows Laptop HP 6710b, 2 * HP printer, 2 power adapters(from the power outlet in the wall)
Can someone make me a simple drawing showing how it could be connected?
I am looking for to make it as simple as possible with respect to iTunes, and mobileMe account.
If I have to buy more gear, then I do it !!Alternative I would be happy to get a place where to read something related to this issue...
(My printer has its own email: 855aic56osh(at)hpeprint.com )
Thank you in advance...!!

It's been driving me crazy. It started only three or so weeks ago. A summary of the issue is as follows: around 6PM Pacific Standard Time, every single night (so far as I've been able to track and experience), I'll be on ventrilo with friends, and suddenly they will start to cut out. I'll watch their speaker icons stay green as if they're speaking with an open mic, but in reality, it's just lag on my side somehow. "Ping" as displayed on the ventrilo application will erratically change every ten to fifteen seconds or so anywhere from 200ms to 30,000ms. All the while, traceroute, ping, etc., all these will return pings under 200 while this is happening. Outbound is fine, there is no upload lag whatsoever, no lag in the game, closing the game doesn't help (WoW in case you're wondering). Skype experiences similar inbound lag. This will all last until about 8PM PST, give or take, but mostly give.
So, it's not a network problem as far as I can prove, yet it's entirely network related. It's mindblowing. Sadly, I'm a guild leader on the game I play, and I run rated games, so it's very important that this works for me, but it only starts right around the time that I can schedule these games. My ISP absolutely will not help me with this as I cannot show them via ping tests that it's their problem. I'm afraid it may not be.
My CPU during this time seems okay. I can't really find any red flags. I haven't really installed any new widgets or anything that I can think of. I've tried quitting various processes during all this, like relaunching finder, quitting iTunes, Safari, even WoW, and even just trial and error through the activity monitor - no luck.
I tried running sudo tcpdump in the terminal and I really have no idea how to read it, not too seasoned in network analysis... But I will attach a picture. I know it doesn't help that you can't see my IP address, but I am kinda paranoid about posting it, too.
Anyway, any help would be a blessing. Thanks.
Picture 11.png is the tcpdump and activity monitor. 22 and 21 is a full list of running processes.

Get an M-Audio pre-amp, then you can plug any mic into it (Shure, etc).
Pre-Amp provides for much better quality and flexibility...

I had a similar problem when I first installed an HDMI switch. I changed the switch to an older one and it worked.
I have a sneaky feeling that maybe newer HDMI equipment is more strict about DRM rules on handshaking (aka HDCP) whereas maybe the older HDMI equipment ignored those flags.
Some people say that if you go into the control panel of Mac Min and change sleep settings to display always on, this problem will go away. I have never investigated this since I already put in the new HDMI switch.

there's a way to switch the speaker out to line in. how do i find it?
If you know that, can't you check with the source? Because I had not heard about such a feature before...

Is there any utility out there that I can add to System 7 Today so that my visitors can get in on the folding fun?
If not, somebody should make one.

Just use iPhoto
Okay....I am new to Mac... so just import through iPhoto? Is this the easiest way? I'd like to be able to just stick the pictures in my Pictures folder.

@herruberraschen - are there any online at a reasonably affordable price? most iPod classic's earlier than the 7th gen are more expensive (at a new price) than the current gen. :-/
If not I may break down and pay the extra amount for the older 5/5.5 model.

Did you compare two fresh installs?
Nope, I have installed Lion DP1 "on top of" Snow Leopard, and DP2 over DP1. But in my world, that shouldn't impact the boot time positive if at all...

Well first off, I don't think there has been much of a performance difference from the i5 and i7 on the 13". There is some definite gain going from the 13" to the 15" though. So if you were considering the 13" I would urge to go the i5 route. You could save that money for a SSD or RAM or something like that.
What about screen size? Have you used a 13" or a 15" screen? Some people find that the 13" is just too small...so maybe a 15" with HiRes or something for you if that's the case.
Hopefully I'm not confusing you even more as to what to get.
Thanks for the response!
I went into the Apple store yesterday and had a look, unfortunately the only applications available were like Safari and itunes. Which seems fine, but for programming/photoshop, I'm not sure it may be large enough. I probably won't be doing as much heavy activity on the go, but I just don't want it to bottleneck/crash any intense applications since it's a dual core.
Thanks,
- Toimia

Since you should be able to access the MarketPlace, you could put it in there as well. Just post the eBay link and possibly some details (e.g. only through eBay with PayPal). I took a look and others were doing the same so I assume it's allowed (didn't see anything in the rules either).

Look into Pump Audio or Crucial Music. If you're looking at smaller-budget projects, there are plenty of independent musicians/bands out there who are willing to work something out. What do you have in mind?
