Funny you should mention those SGI 17" widescreen, because i far as i am aware (at least the SGI website says so) you can't use the multilink adapter with OS X in digital mode (it is a pity because their native resolution is 1600*1024 which is exactly the Cinema Display's so the graphic cards on recent Powermacs can therefore output those res.). That reduces those screens to pretty much legacy hardware. If there is a digital solution for those screens under OS X, i would like to know it 'cause where i work we have something like 15 or so of those running WebObject apps on NT boxes (which, you will certainly admit, defeats the purpose). So if i could migrate those screens to OS X i would be able to replace those Dell workstations with Apple PMacs.
Anyway i am a bit off topic here...
Everyone pretty much agrees that Apple is in serious need of revamping their display line, but i would say that their main business is to sell Apple computers, so the screens are one of the (very) obvious ways to attract attention and to make those computers very desirable. I don't think they are on the market to sell screens on their own (competition is fierce there).
If you are looking for a more polyvalent screen, get a Formac Gallery (1740 or 2010 - the DVI interface is a bit more common than the ADC...): now that is a screen...

First time jailbreaker ...
Following the instructions on the Redmond Pie website for my 3rd gen ipod touch and got to the part where I need to browse for my IPSW.
I DL'd "iPhone3,1_4.3.2_8H7.bundle" and put it in the Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ directory in the Pwnage Tool package.
I DL'd the file "ipod3,1_4.3.2_8H7_Restore.ipsw" and placed on my desktop, but Pwnage Tool keeps giving the "Wrong firmware bundle selected" error.
Not sure where I am going wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Great points. Sorry, should've mentioned that yes, I'll have cable set top boxes in all rooms too. Good tip on the Apple TV for the other rooms, don't know why I didn't think of that. Will be much less expensive!

Yeah I have a 23 inch cinema display that I will be hooking up to the laptop.
I guess the real question is whether I really need the power of the 15 inch if i will only be doing rough cuts while at school. Maybe the 13in will suffice? Only disadvantage is lack of graphics card for motion and color. I really do like the portability of the 13. I can always buy an iMac later on when I make some more cash off video work.

So I have had this question for awhile. How do cd producers and tv broadcasters get a universal volume? in other words, how do they make it so whenever you shuffle songs on your ipod or surf channels, you don't ever really need to change the volume from song to song or channel to channel? does that make sense? What standard do they use to do that? for example, whenever i mess around with garage band or something and export it as an audio file into itunes, I get a significant drop in volume compared to other songs. Just kind of curious?

I'm not. Have you used the Samsung Galaxy S?? It's an amazing phone. I haven't used an iPhone 4, but it's similar enough to the iPhone 3Gs (with the new iOS) that I doubt a "test drive" of an iPhone 4 would convince me otherwise.
I have not used the Galaxy S phone. It does look great though. From my perspective, my iPhone is so much beyond being just a phone. With all the applications I have installed on it, the device is simply a part of so many activities I do on a day-to-day basis. It really wouldn't be that easy to replace it with another device.

I've gone through many of these forums and solutions for this problem but none of them have worked. My internal speakers stopped working and this has happened before but it was solved by the easy-peasy headphone trick that is popular on those forums. But now it doesn't work. I've actually done it maybe a dozen times and it still doesn't work. I'm starting to think it's because my cat spilled water on it but I still don't think that's the case because this problem has happened before. I've tried restarting the computer and looking at the system preferences. The internal speakers don't even come up as an option on the output. Can someone help?

I'm quite upset about this;
When I opened up my revB imac for the first time, I was overjoyed to see that the craftsman ship that made my unit so shiny outside was actually followed all the way through to the end; making the middle of the unit clean and tidy with the gorgeous "G5" metal housing for the processor and such.
With this, it looks like a small bomb has combusted in the middle of the unit. If this is the style apple is now adopting I do not look forward to the next couple of years...are we going to be faced with the horror of cables randomly linked and tied to things to save a buck?

I'm thinking of buying a laptop and the iPad 2 through Apple's online store. If I have problems with the units, can I exchange or return them through one of Apple's physical brick and mortar store?
Yes, you can take them to the physical stores for service. As far as exchanges, the BTO Macs are not all available in stores, so it depends on the configuration.

Thanks so much for your help guys.
Much appreciated.
I gave the colour correction a go but couldn't get it exactly the way I wanted it. Then decided it was slightly quirky.
If you have time, check out the final product here. http://vimeo.com/21958811
See if you can spot where I was talking about!
Many thanks.

Easy. You want to use iPhoto to store your pics and just edit a few in PhotoShop. In the iPhoto Preferences Pane, set the Edit With drop-down to PhotoShop. Back in iPhoto, Right-Click on your photo and select Open in External Editor. That will open it in PhotoShop. If the file is shot in RAW, it will open in the Adobe Camera Raw portion of PS where you can make fine adjustments not available in either iPhoto or the usual PhotoShop window. If it's just a jpeg, it will go right to the main PS window.
Here is my iPhoto Preferences Pane. Ignore the Aperture settings.

Great thread and your words ring true.
The only issue I've had is with SBSettings on 4.3.2 I noticed you downloaded and are using it without issue.
My only jailbroken Cydia apps I have are, Winterboard (for "Theme It") and MyWi. When I attempted to add SBSettings my iPhone 4 went into safe mode after a few minutes. That made me nervous so I deleted the app.
Is SBSettings 4.3.2 ready completely?

Hi. Finally looking to unload my 3rd Gen iPod 40 Gb. I am the original owner and I still have the box, box it was shipped to me in from Apple, unused dock, unused earbuds, unused original case, unused remote, Vaja Case, FireWire Cable and unused discs/manuals. I will include the iPod charger if I get enough for the iPod. I may be able to find the original receipt if that is a "big" deal for the buyer. It's in perfect working condition just a little louder than when I first bought it. Also, the back of the iPod is engraved with my name and phone number as well as has some scratches on the back from the Vaja Case. That being said, I barely used this iPod outside of the house and I would classify it in B-B+ condition. I will be sure to post some pictures if there is some interest. Regards, mBurns
EDIT: Thought I'd add what is prompting me to sell is the little use I'm getting from the iPod after having an iPhone.
I'm hoping to get ~$150 OBO for the iPod. I realize that is high but due to the unused condition of the accessories and outside shipping box, the price is warranted.

Oh, I found out it wasn't an overheating problem. Just that Finder's preferences were on the fritz. I haven't had a crash since deleting them.
